The Miami-Dade police are seeking Zeniel Francisco Cabrera Talavera as the suspected responsible for a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on November 11 in the Redland area of Miami-Dade County.
The tragedy claimed the life of Alexis Muñoz, a 46-year-old Cuban father of three, who had arrived in the U.S. just six months earlier in search of a better life.
The 25-year-old suspect may have fled to Mexico after the accident, police believe.
The Miami-Dade police are also on the trail of the man who supported the driver after the accident, a person nicknamed "Rabiche" described as a man in his 50s to 60s.
A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case.
The victim's wife, Sahyli Brito-Martínez, visibly distressed, sought assistance at a press conference to locate the culprit.
“We come from Cuba like all Cubans, with the dream of a better life,” he stated in remarks reported by Telemundo 51.
Through tears, Brito-Martínez urged anyone who knows the whereabouts of Zeniel Francisco Cabrera to report it to the police without delay.
"He was a great man; he didn't deserve this," the woman said in reference to her deceased husband, who is the father of her youngest child, a boy of only three years old.
Accident details
The accident occurred on November 11 at approximately 5:55 a.m. at the intersection of 208th Street and 194th Avenue in southwest Miami-Dade.
That day, Muñoz, who had just dropped his wife off at her workplace, was stopped on a scooter waiting to turn left towards his own job when he was struck by a gray Ford truck.
According to traffic homicide detective Michael Quiñones, the vehicle tried to pass him on the right, hitting him with a trailer and leaving the victim trapped underneath.
The driver got out of the vehicle, pulled Muñoz's body out, and then fled the scene with the help of a man known as "Rabiche," who picked him up in a red truck.
