Edmundo González: "Nicolás Maduro carries out a coup d'état in Venezuela."

Edmundo González, Venezuelan opposition leader, denounces on social media that Nicolás Maduro has consolidated a coup d'état and asserts that he will defend the mandate of nearly 8 million Venezuelans.

The Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González spoke out this Friday on social media, where he denounced that the regime of Nicolás Maduro has consolidated a coup d'état in the country.

González, who represents the opposition and has been recognized by millions of Venezuelans as the legitimate president, stated on the social media platform X that he will defend the popular will expressed at the polls.

"Compatriots of Venezuela! I represent the will of nearly 8 million Venezuelans within the homeland, and that of the millions of compatriots who were prevented from voting abroad, and I have the duty to defend that commitment," he wrote in his message.

The opposition leader emphasized that his mission is to protect the mandate given by the voters, in a context where Maduro and his government have been accused of violating the Constitution and illegitimately maintaining their hold on power.

"Today, in Caracas, Maduro has violated the Constitution and the sovereign will of the Venezuelans, expressed on July 28. He carries out a coup d'état. He self-crowns as dictator", González stated in the video posted on the social network X.

Moreover, he asserted that the regime of Nicolás Maduro lacks popular support and backing from democratic governments, having only the support of "the dictators of Cuba, Congo, and Nicaragua."

González stated that he is working on the necessary conditions for his safe entry into Venezuela and his assumption of the role of constitutional president and commander-in-chief of the National Armed Forces.

"I represent the will of nearly eight million Venezuelans within the homeland and that of millions of compatriots who were prevented from voting abroad, and I have the duty to uphold that commitment," he emphasized.

He also denounced the recent repression by the regime against opposition leaders, citing the case of María Corina Machado as an example of Maduro's "cowardice and lack of scruples."

Despite the threats, González expressed his confidence that he will soon return to the country to lead the democratic transition.

In his message, he emphasized the growing recognition of his leadership by the international community, mentioning the support from Israel and the multilateral sanctions against Maduro's regime.

He expressed his gratitude to the democratic governments that have responded to his call and urged those who have not yet done so to take a firm stand against tyranny.

Additionally, he called on the high military command to disregard the illegal orders of the regime and to ensure their safety in assuming the position conferred upon them by the will of the people.

"The soldiers of our National Armed Forces are part of the same people to whom they owe their obedience through me, as I am today the elected president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," he stated.

Finally, he sent a message of hope to the Venezuelan people, promising not to fail them and reaffirming his commitment to lead the way toward freedom. He concluded by remembering the legacy of struggle of the Liberator Father and the certainty that "freedom always conquers tyranny."

"Glory to the brave people!" he concluded, with a message of unity for all Venezuelans.

This Friday, the opposition leader María Corina Machado shared a message on social media where she not only condemned the repression endured, but also provided details about the incident and reflected on the political crisis that Venezuela is facing.

The opposition leader described on Instagram how she was “violently intercepted” by regime officials after participating in the opposition demonstration on Thursday in Caracas.
