The company MCV Comercial S.A, authorized for the sale of automobiles in Cuba and representative of the German luxury car brand Mercedes Benz, celebrated its first car sale with the release of a video featuring a testimonial from its first customer.
"Today we make history together", the company stated on its social media, celebrating the recent "opening" of the Cuban market following the new law on the importation and commercialization of vehicles on the island approved by the regime.
However, although the firm displays a catalog of vehicles from the prestigious German manufacturer, with minimum prices exceeding 50 thousand dollars, the first customer purchased a Chinese car from the brand DFSK.
And the Mercedes Benz store in Havana also sells other brands, including Chinese ones, with more affordable prices ranging from 16,000 to 22,000 dollars, according to its catalog.
"I consider the purchasing process to be spectacular. I found out through social media, searched for Mercedes' location on Facebook, and got in touch with the sales representative. From the moment I contacted them to the service I received, everything was very quick and very good. I arrived at a quarter to nine in the morning, and it's now ten o'clock, and we've already completed the entire process," said the first Cuban client of the company in a video shared on their networks by MCV Comercial S.A.
On January 1, several reforms regarding the importation, sale, and transfer of vehicles came into effect, aimed at modernizing the automotive fleet and alleviating tensions in access to transportation on the island.
The legal text indicated that there was a need to update a regulatory framework that has remained rigid for decades, with the stated aim of improving transportation management and easing access to vehicles.
Since its opening for hiring on January 9, the Mercedez Benz office in the capital reported having registered an overwhelming demand from customers interested in purchasing vehicles from the brand under the new Decree 119/24.
He also highlighted that the high demand has led to a saturation of appointments, leaving many interested individuals on a waiting list to be attended to.
In that regard, the company issued a statement thanking the Cubans for their trust and stated that the hiring process is being carried out in an orderly manner, but with a high accumulation of applications.
