Four vehicles involved in a spectacular multiple accident in Havana

The accident occurred this Tuesday.

On the afternoon of this Tuesday, a multiple vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Vía Blanca and Primelles in the Cerro municipality, involving two cars, a motorcycle, and a jeep, according to reports from eyewitnesses.

It is unknown if there were any injuries in the accident.

The exact cause of the accident is also unclear, although the incident occurred in an area where the traffic light had not been functioning for days, creating chaos and putting the safety of drivers and pedestrians at risk, which seems to have triggered the incident in this case.

Of the vehicles involved, the one that suffered the most was the jeep, which overturned.

"That's because the traffic light is off for Vía Blanca and working for Primelles. There you have the result, it's been broken for a while," commented a user in the comments section of a post in the Facebook group Accidents Buses & Trucks.

Amid public outrage, another witness added: "None of the traffic lights work here. The one at La Palma has been like this for over a week; six cars crashed."

Others pointed out problems at major intersections like Prado and Malecón and Zulueta and Neptuno, where reports of broken and non-functional traffic lights are frequent.

"It is a disrespect, and the accident and damages, both physical and material, are not covered by the government"; "There are traffic lights that prioritize one side due to the category of the road, but on the other side, the light is out, and that confusion can be fatal," expressed two other commentators.

The lack of electricity in the traffic lights in the area is a recurring issue in recent months across the country, coinciding with the wave of severe blackouts affecting the island.

However, a driver pointed out that beyond the lack of lights at the traffic signal, traffic laws at an international level are designed to be followed even when there is no electrical power.

As of the publication of this note, there are no other confirmed details about the incident.

Since the beginning of the year, several serious accidents have already shaken the roads of Cuba.

The collision of two buses last Friday in Camagüey resulted in two fatalities and more than 50 injuries.

In another serious incident, a motorcyclist lost his life last Saturday in Havana after crashing into a truck.
