The South African magnate Elon Musk has launched a new criticism toward Nicolás Maduro, stating that the leader is "harming the people of Venezuela" in a manner similar to his predecessor, Hugo Chávez. Musk expressed these words through his Twitter account, now known as X, in response to an article by the Axios agency suggesting that advisors of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, are comparing Maduro's situation with that of the ousted Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

Musk has repeatedly pointed out Maduro's negative influence in Venezuela, which has provoked vehement responses from the Chavista leader. Maduro has accused the businessman of financing an alleged "cyber coup" against his government with the aim of "stealing the sovereignty" from the Venezuelan people. In a recent speech in Carabobo, the Venezuelan leader described Elon Musk as a "Goliath" and claimed that the magnate seeks to destroy Venezuela's "direct, popular, radical, and socialist democracy."

The tense relationship between Musk and Maduro is set against a complicated international backdrop. The European Union, along with other countries, has rejected Maduro's recent swearing-in for a new term, citing a lack of democratic legitimacy. The EU has imposed sanctions on high-ranking Venezuelan officials, holding them accountable for undermining democracy and human rights. This has increased pressure on the Venezuelan government, which faces escalating criticism from the international community.

Internally, the situation of the Venezuelan opposition is equally complex. Recently, opposition leader María Corina Machado was violently detained during a protest in Caracas, which provoked international condemnation and a direct warning from Donald Trump. The elected President of the United States has expressed his support for the protesters and the Venezuelan opposition, while demanding the immediate protection and release of Machado and other detained leaders.

The situation in Venezuela remains tense and multifaceted. With criticism from international figures such as Elon Musk and the increase in sanctions from the EU, Maduro's regime is facing significant pressure both domestically and internationally.

However, the future of Venezuela remains uncertain, with a population that continues to suffer the consequences of the prolonged economic and political crisis in the country.
