Self-service kiosks are being installed in Miami-Dade to facilitate vehicle registration renewal

Five kiosks have been installed in high-traffic areas.

Residents of Miami-Dade County can now renew their vehicle registration directly at Publix supermarkets.

The measure is part of a program initiated by the county's Tax Collector's office, in collaboration with Florida MV Express, to facilitate access to this type of process without the need to visit a government office or use online platforms.

Five kiosks have been installed in Publix stores located in high-traffic areas:

-15771 SW 152nd Street, Miami.

-20201 SW 127th Avenue, Miami.

-7550 NW 104th Avenue, Doral.

-1920 West Avenue, Miami Beach.

-891 N. Homestead Boulevard, Homestead.

These locations were selected for their accessibility and because they are part of the daily routine of many residents.

How to use the kiosks

The operation of the kiosks is automated and guided step by step.

Users must:

-Enter the PIN number received previously by email, or the vehicle's license plate number.

-Enter the date of birth of the registered primary owner.

- Follow the system instructions.

-Make the payment with a debit or credit card (some machines may accept cash).

Get instantly:

-The updated sticker.

The printed receipt of the renewal.

The transaction receipt.

The entire process takes less than two minutes, according to the authorities.

Eligibility and Restrictions

The kiosks allow for the renewal of vehicle registrations that do not require the issuance of a new plate and that do not have active violations such as suspended licenses or unpaid tolls. No additional documents, such as insurance certificates, are required.

They cannot be processed on these devices:

- Autonomous vehicles.

-Vessels.

-Official or government vehicles.

-Mobile homes.

-Customized plates or those of the National Guard.

-IRP Records.

-Parking permits or signs.

Service costs

The use of the kiosk incurs a charge of $4.50 per transaction plus a processing fee of 2.3% for card payments.

These amounts are managed by Florida MV Express, and the collector's office does not receive any revenue from these commissions.

Nevertheless, according to official information, this method is more economical than processing the procedure online or in person.

Official statements

Dariel Fernández, the tax collector of Miami-Dade, explained that the initiative aims to modernize access to essential public services.

"Our responsibility is to make government more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our residents. By introducing self-service kiosks in everyday locations, we are removing barriers and modernizing the way citizens interact with essential public services," he said.

Fernández also highlighted the selection of Publix supermarkets as allies of the project:

"We want the government to be present where people live. With these kiosks, we not only gain efficiency but also give back time to citizens," he stated.

He also clarified that those who prefer a more traditional approach will still have the option to go to the county offices.

“People who do not have that ease with technology are also attended to in person; they can come in and we will explain it to them,” he concluded.

Renewal deadlines

Residents can use the kiosks to renew their vehicle registrations from 90 days before the expiration date and up to eight months afterward, although late fees may apply for overdue payments.
