After five consecutive days without price changes in the Cuban informal market, by the dawn of this Wednesday, the euro has seen a spike in its average selling value, according to the daily report from elTOQUE, which documents the fluctuations of the three currencies.

At 8:00 a.m. on this August 27th, the European currency rises to 453 CUP, which is three pesos more than the value it had held since August 12th, a value only interrupted on the 19th, by a brief increase to 451.

The dollar, for its part, remains valued at 405 CUP.

In the case of the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), it currently holds at 195 CUP at the rate that arrived last Friday, after having dropped by five pesos suddenly.

Exchange Rate Evolution

In light of the increasing activity of the three reference currencies in the informal Cuban market, specifically the dollar and the euro in recent months, it is a fact that the national currency is becoming increasingly weak and that ordinary Cubans are losing purchasing power.

Meanwhile, the Cuban government remains silent despite promises of currency reform that it has not yet addressed.
