The week concludes with two updates in the black market for currencies in Cuba: the price of the dollar rises, setting a new record, and the MLC sees a slight increase.

In recent hours, the US dollar surged to 412 CUP, two pesos more than the previous day and a record sale figure since the independent outlet elTOQUE has been documenting the fluctuations of the currency.

The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), for its part, after the abrupt drop of five pesos on Saturday, recovers two units this Sunday and is once again at 192 CUP.

The euro, for its part, remains at the top of the table, with an estimated selling price of 460 CUP, according to the daily report from elTOQUE.

In July, Manuel Marrero announced transformations in the official exchange market in Cuba, changes that - as he indicated - are planned to be implemented in the second half of the year. However, there are currently no updates on the matter.

Last week, the Cuban regime announced that the average monthly salary in the country rose to 6,649 pesos during the first half of 2025, representing an increase of 16.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The data, released by the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) and reproduced by Cubadebate, was presented as a positive indicator of the official economic policy.

Nonetheless, far from providing relief to the population, this increase amounts to little or nothing in the face of the deep inflationary crisis and the ongoing depreciation of the Cuban peso.

The numbers clash with the reality of everyday life: the informal market rate reveals that the dollar remains at 410 CUP, meaning that this new average salary barely amounts to about 16.22 dollars per month. In other words, what a worker earns in a month is not even enough to cover a minimal portion of their needs.
