Ultimate Guide to Express Entry to Canada

The government states that the express entry will ensure that qualified immigrants can settle permanently in Canada to help meet the country's labor needs, which is what the Temporary Foreign Worker Program aims to achieve.

The Minister of Immigration, Chris Alexander, told a committee of MPs last week that express entry is "the top priority" for his department.

"It is the new system intended for all our economic programs starting January 1, 2015," said Minister Alexander.

The "Express Entry" could be offered to qualified immigrants who have submitted an application through the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (PTSA), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and a component of the Provincial Nominee Program.

In preparation for the launch of the new immigration system, the government began accepting 25,000 applications under the federal skilled worker program on May 1, 2014, in addition to the 5,000 applications it accepted the previous year. It also doubles the number of skilled immigrant occupations that can be applied for.

Canada is actively recruiting skilled immigrants for the federal skilled worker program in the following 50 occupations, which the government states reflect the latest needs of the labor market:
