The prominent Cuban baseball player Raúl González Isidoria severed ties with the island's Baseball Federation after recently requesting political asylum at the border between Canada and the United States.
According to journalist Yasel Porto, who reported through his Facebook page, sources close to the case indicated that the Avilan infielder decided to part ways after being cut from the national team for the Premier 12 tournament.
At 37 years old, the infielder and right-handed hitter, who represented Cuba even in events organized in U.S. territory, chose to seek a new direction in his life, the communicator stated.
The player traveled to Northern soil with a Canadian visa and is currently under investigation by immigration authorities, who will determine his future status in the United States.
It is worth remembering that this year he played with the Kitchener Panthers in the Intercounty Baseball League of Canada.
According to the statistics from the site Béisbol Cubano, the versatile player accumulated 19 National Series, in which he had an average of .299, with 1,395 hits, .399 OBP, 244 doubles, 19 triples, 117 home runs, 802 runs scored, 715 RBIs, and an OPS of .825.
The exodus of players from the island is unstoppable. Just a few days ago, Ariel Pestano Jr., son of the former team catcher Ariel Pestano, arrived in the United States after waiting several weeks in Mexico for his interview via the CBP One phone application.
