Ketty Fresneda, the young 28-year-old Cuban who resides in the Galician city of Pontevedra, came in second place in the final of the sixth season of the MasterChef cooking competition, in Spain.
Nutritionist Marta, 22, has emerged as the winner with a "Mediterranean" menu. In third place was the Russian Oxana.
Marta will receive the prize of 100,000 euros, in addition to a master's degree in cooking, technique, product and creativity from the Basque Culinary Center, and the publication of her own recipe book.
Katty, for her part, is rewarded with a specialized baking course at the Basque institution.
The Cuban prepared a menu halfway between her native Island and Galicia, composed of a seafood salad with a coconut dome, a monkfish in its juice with an original salad, and a "cuba libre" brought to the pastry.
Ketty's mother was present during the gala to support her daughter.
