Left-handed Osvaldo Hernández demonstrated that his talent is more certainty than doubt, after an exceptional 2018 that saw him be chosen as the best left-handed Pitcher of the Year in the Midwest League, Class-A medium.
The Artemisa native pitched for the Fort Wayne TinCaps and left a record of 11-4, 1.81 ERA, plus 94 strikeouts, only three home runs allowed and a rival average of .254. He will continue to progress through the minor leagues and at 20 years old he is one of the arms of the future of the San Diego Padres.
Hernández caught the attention of scouts in the Dominican Republic, where he has settled since 2016 after emigrating from Cuba.
The Padres won the bid for his pitches and signed him for $2.5 million.
Along with Adría Morejón, Michel Báez, Jorge Oña, Ramón Pérez, Edgar Martínez and Ronald Bolaño, he is part of a generation of Cubans that the Padres management trusted in their current reconstruction process.
