Yeni Valdés and Pedrito Calvo worked together during their time in the famous orchestra founded by the late Cuban musicianJuan Formell, Los Van Van. Both are part of the most important voices that "El Tren de la salsa" has had during its career, so much so that their labels and musical styles are still valid in some of the group's greatest hits.
After 16 years being the female figure par excellence of the band,New Valdes She permanently left Los Van Van to start a new life in the United States with her husband, fellow Cuban musician Erick Barbería. Pedrito Calvo, for his part, was an undisputed leader of Los Van Van since he joined it at the end of 1973. However, in 2002 he decided to start his own musical project away from the Formells and founded the band La Nueva Justice in which he currently works as lead singer.
Although the two artists took different paths, their respect for "El Tren de la salsa" has remained.
