Several left-handed pitchers have passed through the Dominican Republic and have been lucky enough to sign a professional contract with a Major League organization. From 2015 to date, names stand out from Adrián Morejón to Luis González and Sandro Bargallo last spring.

The same luck will be sought by Havana prospect Reylien Hernández, who is in the Dominican Republic trying to demonstrate the talent he possesses.

Hernández was born in Havana City. He is 17 years old and although he is not one of the best-known names, his numbers and projection speak for themselves of a baseball player who could sign soon.

His main weapon is control. He has a fastball of 88-89 miles, while in the curve and changeup he has two more than developed secondary pitches.

With a preparation determined to increase strength and weight, Hernández will gain two or three miles and will be an interesting option.

He comes from pitching in the previous Provincial Championship in the capital with Habana del Este dominating rivals who are in the National Series at ease. Hernández went 2-0, and in 16 innings he did not get a single earned run, striking out 10 and walking four.

In the last U-15 National Championship he played in, he also shone with a 5-0 record, 1.45 ERA, 37 innings and 28 strikeouts in eight starts.

Cuban talent continues to arrive in the Dominican Republic, and among the left-handed arms I would count on Hernández to move to the Major League system and after going through the Minor League learning stage, demonstrate that his pitches have the necessary power to succeed.
