For the first time in history, the four titles of the main beauty pageants (Miss Universe, Miss America, Miss United States and Miss Teen USA) belong to black women.
The South AfricanBoth Tunzi She was crowned Miss Universe last Sunday in Atlanta. A triumph that marked a before and after in history, since for the first time four black women won all four contests simultaneously in the same year.
Before Zozibini Tunzi won against the Puerto Rican and Mexican in Miss Universe,Nia Franklin won Miss America,Cheslie Kryst Miss United States andKaliegh Garris Miss Teen USA.
A milestone that evenMichelle Obama has noted under the hashtag #BlackGirlMagic on her Twitter profile. Since it must be taken into account that in the beginning of beauty pageants the participation of black women was prohibited. A racial barrier that even had to be broken when they were accepted in the contests due to the beauty standards sought for the queens.
On Monday, the current Miss United States noted this historic fact after Tunzi's triumph in an Instagram post with a collage that brought together the four coronations.
"I grew up in a world where a woman who looked like me, with my skin type and my hair type, was never considered beautiful. I think it's time for that to end today. I want kids to look at me and see my face. And I want you to see your faces reflected in mine," Tunzi said before winning Miss Universe 2019.
