Gilberto Portilla left Cuba in recent days through legal means. Already settled in the Dominican Republic, the paradise of prospects, academies and million-dollar signings, the third baseman will seek the desire of so many players of any nationality.

Portilla, 15, appears to be a special prospect.

Rated among the best of his age, in the last Youth Championship he accumulated three doubles and two home runs.

Now the one born in Las Tunas and considered a five-tool player will enter the free agency process, physical and technical preparation in order to further improve his skills and be recruited by a Major League organization.

He measures 5.11 and his contact, power, excellent arm and defense, in addition to the speed he possesses, make him a respected contender next July 2 when the international signing period opens.

Since Portilla arrived he has put on his own show. The man from Las Tunas seeks to crystallize talent to begin his future in the world of professional baseball.
