The60 National Baseball Series in Cuba, scheduled to begin on September 12, will debut some new features, including uniforms with the name of each team's mascot, matching masks, and nationally produced majagua bats.
Andrés Alberdi, director of the sporting goods company Batos, said in statements toJIT that the new uniforms respond to a request from the fans and the national commission, whileMajagua bats will replace imports.
TheCuban company Batos -the only one in the country dedicated to the production of sporting goods- has prepared the delivery of 50 modules per team, which contain uniforms, socks, sports suits, short sliders, jerseys, gloves, masks and other products.
In the case of the masks - an unexpected accessory in the new edition of the championship - they carry the Batos brand and the identifying letter of the cast, made with the colors of the Cuban flag.
Bates de majagua
Regarding the bats that will be used in the National Series, Maidelín Cuéllar, director of Batos Beisbol, stated that they will manufacture 3,000 bats and added that they will increase that number if necessary.
Although in previous national series Batos manufactured bats in Cuba with imported wood - such as maple or ash - this year the company opted for majagua, in the midst of the import substitution campaign promoted by the Cuban government.
“Stars like Antonio Muñoz, Pedro José Rodríguez, Orestes Kindelán and Armando Capiró, in short, the greatest Cuban sluggers, hit home runs with Majagua bats. That's why we hope that today's players also give home runs to their fans," Alberdi said.
Six workers are in charge of cutting the wood and the process of turning, drying and varnishing the bats, which must meet international requirements.

Batos has announced the launch of an online store where you can purchase different products, including t-shirts. "With around 251 thousand items manufactured. Today we make clothing, balls, children's balls, gloves, bats, chess, checkers and dominoes. In short, we don't stop," the official stressed.
Starting next Monday, the public will be able to access the address www.lotengo.com, declared Andrés Alberdi, and specified that Batos will soon open a store in national currency, which will be located in the Latin American Stadium.
A few decades ago - before the Special Period - Batos produced a range of almost 600 sporting goods, but later fell into disgrace, like so many other Cuban state companies.
In 2018 and 2019, Batos was the subject of investments, and this has made it possible to recover some productions, until it produced more than 330 lines, according to data fromCubadebate, which announced in September 2019 that for 2020 Batos would receive a budget of $5 million, five times more than it had received in previous periods.
