More than 15 thousand eggs were lost in the province of Artemisa during the recent blackouts due to tropical storm Laura that passed through the Island.

According to state mediaCubadebate, the lack of electricity in 16 poultry units caused the impact of that amount of eggs, such a precious food for Cubans.

During her passage through Cuba, Laura caused her greatest damage in Artemisa, where it is also estimated that 2,410 hectares (h) of plantain, 230 of cassava and 224 h of dry corn were affected, despite the shortage situation that the region is experiencing. country.

The authorities explained that 240 hours of rice remained lodged, which will reduce its yield, and 76 hours of cane were drained in San Cristóbal.

In the midst of this situation, Gladys Martínez Verdecia, president of the Provincial Defense Council, asked that all recoverable food in the affected areas be recovered; that a short-cycle crop planting program be developed to address the damage caused by the tropical storm, and that foods such as cassava and corn be urgently harvested.

Regarding the housing sector, Laura damaged 146 homes, three total collapses and two partial, 37 total roof collapses and 96 partial, as well as eight damages in typology one homes, which includes rigid roof houses and the buildings, explained Dargis Tomé Hernández, provincial director of housing.

"The recovery of the homes will be done with the resources that the province has and the work must be completed by the middle of next month," he said.

As for the electricity services that were affected, 80 percent must be restored this Wednesday, as well as the water supply.

Although Laura did not cause great damage in the national territory, throughout Cubamore than 2000 homes are countedaffected so far.

In Cuba's electrical system, the phenomenon affected 1,157 megawatts, mainly in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Pinar del Río.
