Cuban actress Mariela Brito was fined by the police with 2000 pesos for sitting in a park in Havana, even though he was wearing a mask.
"They just fined me 2,000 pesos for sitting in a park (alone and with a mask correctly placed)," Brito denounced on the social network Facebook.
"I swear that the most impressive thing has not been the amount and the reprimand, but SEEING CHELA!! in front of me in all her splendor fulfilling her mission as Comprehensive Inspector in the battle against COVID-19 for the health of our people "added the actress.
Using sarcasm, the founder of the El Ciervo Encantado theater company referred to Chela, a character of her creation who works in fiction as a state inspector.
Friends and colleagues of the actress, and other people have been upset by the event on the social network.
"We have to complain, it is totally unfair and absurd. We cannot allow it," said one of her acquaintances.
"I can't understand that measure. Everyone knows that the four best things against Covid are personal hygiene, physical distance, protection with a mask and FRESH AIR," commented the poet Edel Morales.
"This is going from bad to worse, I've already been through it, but when the fine was less staggering, they are trying to raise money at the expense of the people, abusers," said another person.
"How strong! There is no fiction that surpasses the other fiction. Chela versus Chela. 2000 pesos, what salary does that fine pay," questioned one of her colleagues.
"Chela broke the fiction, adjusted the tourniquet, went to pick up her ticket book and went out into the street to look for dangerous people. Didn't she have a magnifying glass to see the details? You must have missed one, but your classmate Chela doesn't miss anything!" another of her friends commented sarcastically.
Mariela Brito is now part of the long list of people that the Cuban authorities have fined high amounts in the last days.
Last August the Cuban government announced that would fine the citizens that they did not comply with the new health measures imposed in the face of the coronavirus outbreak in Havana. Then, the authorities stated that as of September 1, a legal instrument would be implemented that would allow the application of "severe fines with high amounts" in activities that in the midst of this situation are considered indiscipline.
Last week the Cuban police imposed a fine of 2000 (83 CUC) pesos on the Human Rights activist Pedro Wenceslao Laguardia Artiaga for lowering the mask in the doorway of his house to take medicine.
Another Cuban was also forced to pay a 2,000 peso fine for carry a package of chicken in a municipality other than yours.
Since the implementation of the “inspection system” that aims to detect and sanction infractions “for non-compliance with biosafety standards”, in Havana there have been imposed 10,487 fines, of which 939 doubled their amounts due to not being paid within the established term, as declared by the Provincial Defense Council.
