The Cuban prospect Malcom Nunez trains in the city of Miami with the purpose of climbing through the Minor League learning system and arriving at the Big leagues at some point in his career.

Born in Havana and only 19 years old, Núñez is a talent more than considered within the St. Louis Cardinals organization, in which according to MLB Pipeline It is ranked at number 16 out of 30.

He signed for a bonus of $300,000 in July 2018 and confirmed his magnificent tools at bat with the Triple Crown in the Dominican Summer League. By then, Núñez massacred the prospect circuit in Quisqueya, with an average of .415, 13 home runs and 59 RBIs.

"I have been preparing myself physically and hitting, with a view to having a good performance next season," Núñez told CyberCuba.

The Cardinals challenged Núñez by placing him in the Peoria Chiefs, a mid-Class A branch, at their arrival to the United States in 2019. Malcom, nicknamed "The Animal", suffered an offensive slump, in part, due to the appearance of an injury in his back that prevented him from fully swinging.

"That season didn't go well for me due to several injuries I had, but I'm working so that this season everything turns out much better," he added.

Núñez stands out for tools such as power, contact and arm, as well as for his defensive qualities. Although there is no confirmation, the main offensive hero of the U15 World Championship (2016), where Cuba won the title, must start 2021 in Advanced Class-A.

Malcom maintains focus with daily training and perhaps in the near future he will be able to fulfill his dream.

"That is something that I have dreamed of since an early age. For that, I have made all the sacrifices. That has always been my dream," he stated.

According to the portal MLB Pipeline, Núñez would have a date to arrive in the Major Leagues in 2022. We asked him about that and he smiles.

"Hopefully, with God willing, we can arrive in 2022."
