Argentine academic Laura Tedesco on Humberto López's accusation: It bothers me a lot

Tedesco made these comments in an interview with Cuban director Ian Padrón, via Facebook. “This is from 2019 and they are trying to relate it to the marches they are organizing today,” he explained about a transfer via Western Union to the playwright Yunior García.

The Argentine academic Laura Tedesco, accused by government spokesman Humberto López of being involved in destabilizing actions in Cuba, expressed this Saturday his discomfort regarding materials broadcast on the National Television News (NTV).

On Friday night, López linked Tedesco with the playwright Yunior García, promoter of the 15N civic march, through alleged payments via Western Union. “This really bothers me because it also has the DNI, identity documents and addresses of those who receive the money, it seems like an outrage to me,” he said.

Tedesco made these comments in an interview with Cuban director Ian Padrón, through Facebook. “This is from 2019 and they try to relate it to the marches they are organizing today,” he said.

According to the academic, the money was sent so that García and other guests at the event in Madrid could process visas. García would meet in Madrid with Tedesco and a group of people for a workshop, where he participated undercover the so-called "agent Fernando" of State Security, the oncologist Carlos Leonardo Vázquez González.

Tedesco, vice dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at Saint Louis University, on its Madrid campus, previously reacted to the agent's statements. The professor stressed that it is completely false that García had been invited to the workshop to prepare him for the artists' demonstration that occurred last November 27 in front of the Ministry of Culture.

“We invited him because he is a brilliant guy and we met him when we went to see his play Jacuzzi. The other young people were also invited because they are brilliant,” he stressed.

The day before, López showed Western Union records in the name of the playwright Yunior García, who received $200 from Argentine academic Laura Tedesco. Although the amount in the first instance is not striking, López said that "it is neither the only one, nor the juiciest, just a part."
