The popular imagination of Cubans once again sparked a flurry of memes on social media directed at the Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN), which celebrated its 60th anniversary with a rather grotesque fashion show.
The images released by the state agency and its employees show a runway that took place in Havana this Friday during the opening of the 2022 Commercial Techniques Meeting.
The models showcased "dresses" inspired by products sold in Cuban stores and services available to the public, including the Osito brand baby food and ETECSA's Transfermóvil app, which quickly sparked a wave of mockery from internet users.
The "model" of the Osito compote was one of the most criticized, due to its crude design and even some lewd features, and the memes went viral within a few hours.
The MINCIN did not reveal details about who designed those outfits, only sharing the images. However, internet users did not hold back in criticizing the lack of aesthetic appeal in an initiative that is quite provocative amid the food crisis and shortage of essential goods plaguing the country.
He exclusively stated that during this meeting, his workers are preparing 1,200 food packages to distribute to the population.
Memes, as a form of mockery that has gained significant traction on social media, criticized the "models" that were showcased, including the design chosen to celebrate the six decades of MINCIN, in which a person is depicted wearing a white dress, with wings, a crown, and their torso painted blue and white.
Another one that caught the attention of internet users was a woman dressed as ETECSA, the telecommunications monopoly in Cuba, with a peso sign on one breast and the Transfermóvil logo, the electronic payment platform promoted by the communist government, on the other.
The event, which will run until February 22 at the Cultural Station of Línea and 18, hosts dozens of trade entities, institutions, and new economic players, as reported by MINCIN on its Facebook page.
We now share other memes that were posted on social media after the parade.
