The state restaurant "El Caney," located in the coastal town of Isabela de Sagua, in Villa Clara, was reopened this Sunday, after a two-year wait following the fire that destroyed it in 2022.
The news was confirmed by the official journalist Henry Omar Pérez on the social network Facebook, after attending a visit by Cuban leaders to the locality, among whom was the Minister of Domestic Trade Betsy Díaz Velázquez.
In shared photos, it could be seen that the venue was decorated and the kitchen was equipped with the minimum essential for its operation.
"An impeccable restoration, with all the necessary means to offer quality service, ('El Caney') awaits visitors who wish to savor the delicious dishes specializing in fresh and tasty seafood," wrote Pérez.
In the early morning of Sunday, September 25, 2022, the thatch roof of "El Caney" caught fire, just a few hours before it was set to serve as a polling place for the referendum on the Family Code.
There were several versions about the incident, but none confirmed by the government, which never officially clarified the causes of the fire.
The most widespread version was that the fire was intentionally started, attributing the authorship to the group Clandestinos. A video circulated on social media in which a person exclaims "down with communism" while the flames destroyed the establishment.
Some Cubans lamented the disaster that occurred, as they used to visit the restaurant more for its scarce offerings than to enjoy the sea breeze and the view of the area.
