Between the70 measures approved by the State To recover the deteriorated national economy there are some related to sending packages to Cuba. The resolution that regulates tariff benefits, will come into force from August 15.

Meisi Bolaños, Minister of Finance and Prices, said in theRound table This Thursday that the new rule makes the minimum exempt from payment more flexible, based on the "increase in what can be sent by sea, postal or courier to the country" and reduces the tariff rate.

Annex Table

This benefits those who domiscellaneous package shipments to their relatives in Cuba, that is, products for personal use such as clothing, food, hygiene, etc. Currently, for packages to be duty-free, the weight has to be 1.5 kg, soon it will return to 3 kg.

"This is not related to freight forwarders, which mediate the relationship between whoever sends the package and whoever receives it here. This rule refers to thetariff rate that the person who receives a package from abroad in Cuba has to pay," the minister clarified.

The measure specifically is for thepackage shipments to Cuba from abroad. It does not apply to luggage, which responds to other indicators and has its own measures established for its control at customs.

From 3 kg duty-free, people do have topay in national currency to receive the shipment and in dollars for sending it.

"The novelty is that, through shipments, up to 200 dollars can be imported, which is equivalent to 20 kg according to the General Customs regulations of the Republic (1 kg is equivalent to 10 dollars)" said the minister, who stressed that until now the limit import was 10 kg, with the same cost ($200). The new rule, therefore, maintains the amount, but double the weight.
