The United States government condemned the censorship suffered by independent Cuban artists and journalists, especially those who are linked to the digital press medium.elToque.
"As part of the reprisals of the Cuban government against the independent mediaelToque, the cartoonists of the humorous supplementXel2 They were threatened by State Security, forced between blackmail and other pressures to put an end to their work," the Washington Embassy in Havana wrote on Twitter.
Likewise, they shared some of the works carried out by the cartoonists who protested against the arbitrary decision of the authorities and subscribed to the statements made by that alternative media: "the Cuban government will not be able to silence the creative freedom of Cuban artists."
The wave of repression against journalists and collaborators ofelToque started when They prevented several reporters from traveling outside of Cuba to participate in an international event.
They later made public their resignation as independent journalists, citing their personal safety and that of their family, among other reasons.
Also the podcastThe Swarm announced that it was temporarily ceasing production, although the causes were not specified.
"We will do everything possible to resume as soon as possible," they wrote when announcing the decision.
After the closing ofXel2, the support of Cuban cartoonists was immediate and many showed their interest in being part of a graphic humor project where political satire is not censored. The address ofelToque announced thatprepares a new digital supplement with this objective.
