Chucho Valdés, Eliane Elias and Chick Corea win Latin Grammy for album 'Mirror Mirror'

The acclaimed pianist and composer Chucho Valdés won the Latin Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album this Thursday for the album Mirror Mirror, along with pianists Eliane Elias, from Brazil, and the late Chick Corea, from the United States.

The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (LARAS) awarded in aceremony in Las Vegas the musical project that the Cuban jazzman joined after Chick's unexpected death in February 2020.

Last September LARAS had announced the nominations for theThis year's Latin Grammys, among which was the album by the renowned Cuban musician.

Mirror Mirror, already obtained in April of this year theGrammy award in the same category.

On that occasion Valdés said that he was proud of the award and the result of the album, and thanked the Brazilian artist for including him in the project.

The album, which was released in September 2021, includes some songs recorded by Corea, who died in February 2020 and was a great friend of Elias.

This project came about unexpectedly. At first it was a recording of two mirror pianos, with Chick Corea (79 years old) and Eliane Elias, but after recording the fourth song Chick died suddenly.

The Brazilian, then, did not hesitate to invite Valdés to complete the seven missing songs, in a work that has become a tribute to Chick.

With this award, the81-year-old Cuban musician He already has seven Grammy Awards and five Latin Grammy Awards to his career.

This year Chucho Valdés toured several countries such as the United States, France and Spain, where he presented his work titled "The Creation", an Afro-Cuban suite performed by more than 20 musicians.

"I'm never going to slow down," he said in an interview with the magazine.Billboard last year.
