Will Smith, in his first interview after slapping Chris Rock: "I lost control"

The actor expressed concern that the assault would harm his upcoming film.

Eight months after giving that unexpected slap to Chris Rock in the middle of the Oscars, Will Smith He gave his first interview, in which he talked about what happened during the awards; a night he described as "horrible."

For his first television appearance he chose the program The Daily Show, presented by Trevor Noah, a talk in which it was inevitable to address one of the most notorious events of 2022: the slap he gave Chris Rock for a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett.

"There are a lot of nuances and complexities. But in the end, I just lost control, you know?" he said of her aggressive reaction. "I was going through something that night. It's not that that justifies my behavior at all. There were a lot of things," he added about that incident, which would mark the rest of his career.

These statements from the actor, who on the same night he slapped Chris Rock won his first Oscar for The Williams method, arrive when he is about to return to the screens with a new film project, Emancipation.

During the conversation with Trevor Noah, Will Smith expressed his concern that the aggression he carried out at the awards would have a negative impact on the production. Although I would understand if the public is not ready to see him in a movie again.

"My biggest concern is my team. Director Antoine Fuqua has done what I believe is the best work of his entire career," commented the actor, who hopes not to harm the film, in which he plays a slave who escapes from a plantation in Louisiana.
