Will Smith reappeared at an awards show for the first time since last year's Oscars. An awards ceremony that will be remembered forthe slap he gave to Chris Rock after a comment he made about his wife,Jada Pinkett Smith. Later that night, he returned to the stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.to collect his statuette for 'Best Actor'.
Almost a year has passed since that unpleasant incident, a time in which Will Smith has tried to keep a low profile to recover from that altercation that will go down in Oscar history and that led to his expulsion from the Hollywood Academy for ten years. .
His return to an awards ceremony took place last Wednesday, March 1, at the awards given by the Association of African American Film Critics (the AAFCA Awards 2023).
The actor also took the stage at the event to collect the Beacon Award alongside director Antoine Fuqua forhis work inTowards freedom (Emancipation, in English), Apple TV+ original movie. A project that he acknowledges has been "the most difficult individual film of his entire career."
"It's really difficult to transport a modern mind to that time. It's difficult to imagine that, that level of inhumanity," the actor explained in his acceptance speech.
