Cuban activist reunites with his mother in the US thanks to humanitarian parole

The Cuban political activistFelix Llerena He experienced an emotional reunion with his mother this Thursday at Miami International Airport.

"After all these years apart, you are now with me, mom! I love you very much. Welcome home!" Llerena said on Twitter and showed a photo with her mother, at the time of arrival in Florida, United States.

After meeting his mother again, Llerena commented: "I won't be able to live long enough to thank you for everything you've done for me.Never again will anything, nor anyone, be able to separate us. I love you mommy. Welcome to the lands of Liberty."

Mother and son had been separated for five years because the Cuban regime does not allow those who have a leadership role such as opponents or political activists in exile to enter the country.

Felix Llerena He is youth ambassador for Cuba inYouth and Democracy in the Americas (Youth and Democracy in the Americas), during the period 2021-2023.

His performance in this position has allowed him to participate in the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS). In October, he demanded, before this organization, therelease of Cuban political prisoners.

After the historic protests ofJuly 11, 2021, the activist stated at the Summit of Youth and Democracy in the Americas that "in Cuba there has been an order of combat against the people since 1959." He denounced the State's repression against protesters and called for political change on the island.

Llerena's activism began within her native country, when she was still a student. The young man was expelled, in 2017, from the“Enrique José Varona” University of Pedagogical Sciences, In the Habana. He assured that the cause was his political ideas. Some time later he went into exile in the United States and has lived in Florida since then.
