Daniel Ortega's regime strips 94 people of Nicaraguan nationality

The regime ofDaniel Ortega stripped 94 people of Nicaraguan nationality this Wednesday.

This is an operation similar to the one at the beginning of the month, when more than 200 political prisoners were exiled who were sent to the United States and stripped of all their rights as Nicaraguans, in perpetuity.

Among the 94 people that Ortega stripped of Nicaraguan nationality this February 15, are the writersSergio Ramirez, Cervantes Prize (2017) andGioconda Belli, who are residents abroad.

Journalists also stand outWilfredo Miranda, Carlos Fernando Chamorro, the writerSofia Montenegro, the activistsAzahalea Solis, Vilma Núñez and the bishopSilvio Baez.

The president of the Court of Appeals of Managua,Ernesto Rodríguez, reported the decision and assured that those affected are accused of treason and are considered fugitives from justice. All properties that are in their names in Nicaragua will be seized by the regime.

The journalistLucía Pineda Ubau, one of the victims of the Ortega regime, toldThe country that he is still Nicaraguan and the dictatorship cannot take that away from him.

"We have been overwhelmed by them. What was stolen will have to be returned to all Nicaraguans, to these people who have had clear, firm and brave positions (...) Do you think they are going to silence us journalists in exile? They are crazy , they are desperate. They are in their last days," he commented.

Last week theNicaraguan regime expelled 222 political prisoners from the country. They were stripped of their nationality and put on a plane chartered by the United States.

The released prisoners have support from the State Department to begin a process in Washington that allows them to achieve legal status in the country.

Another government that offered them nationality It was Spain. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, said that the offer is extended to political prisoners still in Nicaraguan prisons who the Ortega regime will strip of their nationality for being accused of treason.
