Thehigh infestation and case rateswith suspected dengue fever increased in Pinar del Río, in the midst of a complex scenario marked by a shortage of fuel and insecticides that prevents massive fumigation to eradicate Aedes aegypti outbreaks.

The territories with the worst situation areLos Palacios, San Juan y Martínez and Pinar del Río, with an increase in the incidence of suspected cases, mainly in the popular councils of La Coloma, the urban area of San Juan and in several Health areas of the provincial capital, the local newspaper reported in a note.Guerrilla, where the municipalities of San Luis and Consolación del Sur were also mentioned as "worrying."

Carlos Arturo Fuster Callaba, deputy director of Surveillance and Vector Control, assured that in the most critical places they maintain "control actions", which are fundamentally directed at the destruction of Aedes aegypti foci, the application of adulticidal treatment inside the houses and the "radiobatidas" in the blocks where the suspected dengue cases are located.

The official press, however, did not specify how many cases of dengue have been confirmed in the municipalities or how many suspects there are, they only alerted the population to be alert for symptoms indicative of dengue and to maintain surveillance of possible outbreaks at home.

The crisis of the health system in Cuba and communal services continue to influence the increase in infestation rates of dengue-transmitting mosquitoes.

In Pinar del Río, where the incapacity of autofocal brigadesto eradicate the outbreaks, there have been warnings on other occasions about the risk of contracting dengue in the midst of a scenario influenced by the lack of fuel for massive fumigation in the territories.

Last year, in several towns in Pinar del RíoThe epidemic transmission of dengue was declared.

Dr. Frank Hernández Ávila, head of the Primary Health Care session in Pinar del Río, reported a few months ago on the creation of multidisciplinary teams to guarantee research in Health areas with trained personnel.

The rains, the irregular work of the autofocal brigades and the poor sanitary conditions guarantee the proliferation of diseases associated with Aedes aegypti.
