Almost a year ago, a similar case mobilized the residents of the Pueblo Griffo neighborhood, in Cienfuegos, who went out to rescuean eight-year-old boy and a 24-year-old girl kidnapped by the minor's father, who was prohibited from approaching his children due to his violent behavior.

Videos sent toCyberCuba On that occasion they showed a tense scene in the vicinity of the kidnapper's house, where he took his son and a 24-year-old girl who tried to intercede for the minor's release and ended up being held hostage at knifepoint.

Several sources later confirmed that after a tense situation, the boy and the young woman emerged unharmed, thanks to the demands and intervention of the neighbors, while the police maintained a permissive stance with the kidnapper.

At that time, the platformIYesI Believe Cuba denounced that there was nothing to celebrate on International Women's Day in a country where in 2021 and so far in 2022, at least 38 femicides, 76 political prisoners and an increase and legitimization of police violence had been reported.

Families in situations of violence find no way out due to the lack of shelters and specific protocols for victims of gender violence, the independent organization also warned.
