The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation last week inspected restaurants in the south of the state and ordered the closure of 11 that had cockroaches, rodents or flies, among other food hygiene problems.
Among the best known is the restaurantTaco Bell located at 2250 S University Dr. Davie. Its inspection was carried out based on a complaint and the closure was ordered on March 16, after finding 16 violations of health regulations at the premises.
Local 10, who consulted the report, detailed that this restaurant had insects, rodents and other pests. "Approximately 100 or more live worms were observed in standing water on the floor moving on the cooking line next to the nacho chip stand."
In the control devices they detected "accumulation of dead or trapped birds, insects, rodents or other pests." There were several dead flies next to the soda machine and dead roaches on the counter.
They also detected employees with their hair down while preparing food, and a worker who, after using the bathroom, began to prepare and serve food, manipulate equipment and utensils, without washing his hands.
Another temporarily closed location isJoadis Supermarket and Restaurant, located at 3595 46th Avenue SO. It was ordered closed on March 17 after eight violations were found, lack of control in the freezing and thawing of meat products and many rodent droppings.
The restaurantFratelli's Pizza, Pasta y Vino, at 3992 West Hillsboro Blvd in Deerfield Beach, has been closed since March 14 for violations such as the presence of more than 15 live roaches inside the wheel and surrounding area of the flip-top cooler.
This restaurant was operating with a Hotel and Restaurant Division license that had expired as of December 1, 2022.
Irregularities were also found in restaurants such as Paleteria Michoacan; The Bites; Evia Tavern; Outback Steakhouse; Bento Davie; Tacos Tacos Pizza Pizza; the Balcony of the Americas; and inTucker Duke's Lunchbox.
In this last restaurant, 19 violations of health regulations were detected, ranging from the presence of cockroaches and flies, to the discovery of black/green mold inside the ice machine.
In the cases of restaurants where problems were located, authorities ordered immediate closure. However, everyone will be able to open once they demonstrate that they comply with the requirements of the law.
In South FloridaNo establishments were ordered to close. of food sales located in Miami-Dade or in the Keys, at least during the last week.
