U.S. authorities said theaccess to results of the Diversity Program (DV-2024), the popularlyVisa Lottery, It is working without technical difficulties, and urged participants to repeat their search on the site enabled to find out the winners of the draw.
“We are not experiencing any widespread technical issues with the siteEntrant Status Check to check the status of the participant. We encourage all those who had difficulty accessing the site on May 6 to try again,” said a senior official at the Consular Affairs Office of theDepartment of State.
The consular officer responded to questions fromCyberCuba about alleged difficulties in accessing the results of the lottery held to grant 55,000 immigrant visas at the beginning of fiscal year 2024, which begins next October 1. The winners werereleased last Saturday, May 6.
According to participants in the raffle, including dozens of Cuban citizens and their families, there wereproblems entering your confirmation numbers to the digital site where the results are recorded. The names of the winners remain private and can only be consulted with the personal data of each applicant.
US authorities advised participants to make sure they are using the correct site:https://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/
“Entering a confirmation number on that site is the only way to check if someone has been selected,” the official added.
Numerous comments on social media forums referred to the impossibility of consulting the result despite having correctly entered the data, as they appear on the registration ticket that is issued to each applicant at the time of registering for the draw.
However, although the applicant's full name appears in the registration, verification of the result only requires their surname.
Typically, the biggest problems are faced on the initial day of results release, when millions of people around the world try to access the State Department's site.
The general statistics of participants in the DV-2024 draw and the number of winners by country will be disclosed in the middle of the year.
In last year's draw (DV-2023),1,358 Cubans were winners, who can process their immigrant visas from October 2022 until next September 30. The process for granting visas is underway and so far 366 of the total lucky ones have been stamped.
Cuba led the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in terms of the number of winners of the DV-2023, followed by Peru, with 1,191, Ecuador (466), Argentina (133), Guatemala (84), Nicaragua (77), Bolivia (46) and Costa Rica (39), according to figures from the State Department.
Registration for the next Visa Lottery (DV-2025) will open next October and the call should be announced in the coming months.
Cuba has participated in the draws since the opening of the program in 1990, but it is unknown whether it will be included again in the group of eligible countries, due to the high volumes of immigration of its citizens to the United States during the previous five years.
Since last year's draw (DV-2023),Venezuela was excluded from the list of eligible countries for having high rates of immigration to the United States, an argument that was not applied in the case of Cubans.
