James Cameron, movie directorTitanic (1997), finds similarities between the submarine tragedyTitan with the sinking of the famous ocean liner, which occurred more than a century ago.

"On the Titanic there was some greed, some glory...And here we are again, in the same place. Now there is a shipwreck upon another shipwreck. For the same damn reason.", said the director of the saga in recent statements.Avatar.

"I am struck by the similarity with the Titanic disaster itself,in which the captain was repeatedly warned about the presence of ice ahead of his ship and yet proceeded at full speed towards an icy area," Cameron said in an interview withABC News in reference to the stubbornness ofStockton Rush, director of OceanGate company Expeditions, which was warned of the ship's safety problems.

"This is a very similar tragedy, where warnings were not heeded, happening in the exact same place. With all the diving going on around the world, I think it's amazing and really surreal.""added the film director.

The Canadian filmmaker and underwater explorer defends the safe practice of deep-sea diving, but emphasizes that in this case there were several people who had expressed their concern about the company.OceanGate Expeditions, why"what they were doing was too experimental and needed to be certified."

In his statements, Cameron added that he was a friend "of the French pilot Nargeolet, one of the deceased passengers on the Titan, whom he had known for 25 years, and specified that his death in such a tragic way is something he is still processing.

Cameron filming Titanic -a film that won 13 Oscars- served as an excuse to start diving and see the sunken ship up close.

The Canadian director is well aware of what he is talking about as he has descended to the seabed 33 times, and confesses that on one of his expeditions he was trapped for 16 hours.

In March 2012, Cameron made a world-record solo dive, descending some 10,908 meters below the surface of the Pacific Ocean aboard the DeepSea Challenger submersible. to reach the deepest point on the planet. That inspiring expedition laid the foundations for a new era in scientific exploration of the ocean floor, the most unknown area on the planet.

This Thursday, United States authorities confirmed that the five men who were aboard the Titan submarine, which disappeared last Sunday while descending to find the remains of the Titanic, died after the ship suffered a"catastrophic implosion."

In the last few hours, several of the people who were part of the rare and expensive Titan expeditions have recounted their experience or the stories they made at the time about their trip to the depths have gone viral.

Among them stands out the Mexican YouTuber and actorAlan Estrada Gutierrez, known for his travel channel "Alan around the world", who last year became one of the first to descend on the Titan submersible to see the remains of the Titanic. Upon his return he said that he stillThere were many security aspects that the company had to polish, although in his case he considered himself lucky for the experience.
