Hundreds of residents in Cuba reported internet connection failures by mobile data this Tuesday, which commemorates the second anniversary of the July 11 protests that shook the country in 2021.

Complaints from Internet users and independent media indicate that many did not have access to calls through social media applications on Tuesday, the signal was intermittent or in some places there was no access to the internet at all.

Although a general outage is not reported, many users claimed to be without mobile data service.

Citing a post from the United States Embassy in Cuba where they were asking for freedom for political prisoners in the context of the anniversary of 11J, Internet user Brian Luis Pérez Cuevas stated that they would also have to protest in front of ETECSA for the right to freedom and access to connection.

"Cubans have the right to be able to make calls via WhatsApp since Internet connectivity is a previously contracted and paid service (many times even in USD). Cuba reaffirms itself every day as the largest open-air prison in the world, only comparable to North Korea," he said in reference to the impossibility of having internet and being limited all the time.

The last Internet outages occurred after the massive demonstration in May in the Guantanamo municipality of Caimanera, in which hundreds of residents peacefully took to the streets to protest the inefficient management of the crisis by the government and demanding “Freedom.”

With the interruption of the connection, and the subsequent repression unleashed on the protesters, the regime tried to minimize what happened and demonstrate that it had the situation under control.
