The collision of a truck from the 50s with an “almendrón”, which occurred this Friday in the province of Artemisa, leaves a provisional balance ofone person dead and two seriously injured.
Reports on social networks indicated that the accident occurred on the highway that goes from Guanajay to Ceiba del Agua.
According to the information provided in by human rights activist,Diasniurka Salcedo Verdecia, the deceased and the injured were residents of Güira de Melena.
At the time of writing this note, neither the local authorities nor the official press are reporting on the tragic incident.
The Almendrón (American-made car from the 1950s) received a frontal impact from a Dodge truck on its left side (driver's side). Apparently it is a Buick Roadmaster from the 1950s.
With license plate P 164 362, this elegant car from the 1950s was crushed by the imposing truck, also from those years, leaving an image of a distant era, of which many vehicles still remain in Cuba, more than sixty after manufactured those models.
Comments on social media posts indicated thatThe deceased was the driver of the almendrón. “Unfortunately the driver died; the other two are serious. They were from Güira de Melena,” stated one of them.
“Many lifelong accidents have occurred in those four corners. It is a very dangerous junction of a lifetime,” said one user, who many agreed with in terms of danger.
It is unknown if it is the junction of the Ceiba del Agua highway with the Central Highway, with the Artemisa highway, or with the one that leads to San Antonio de los Baños. A user specified that the junction was known as “La Lechería”.
According to what was reported in a comment by Salcedo Verdecia,The deceased and the two injured were from the La Guerrilla neighborhood in Güira de Melena. “A neighbor of theirs tells me that they had just bought the machine,” he added.
This last piece of information was corroborated by another Internet user who, upon seeing the images of the accident, commented that he had been on the verge of buying the damaged “almendrón.”
Another alleged witness to the incident stated that “the truck leaked its roof and the firefighters had to chip it to be able to work better. I passed by there when they were doing those painful tasks… the driver died… the scene was very strong.”
“That stretch of road is in perfect condition at the intersection. [In the past] the sense of priority at the junction was for the one driving from Guanajay to Ceiba de Agua. It changed years ago, and the priority [now] is for those who drive on the economic highway, which is what it is called from San Antonio to Cuatro Caminos,” said another, trying to explain how the accident could have happened.
At midnight this Thursday,A 1950s Jeep ended up overturned on Línea Street from Vedado in Havana when he was involved in an accident that also caused damage to a tourist rental car. One person was injured in the event, but there was no loss of life.
One week ago,an almond tree was turned into a mass of iron after colliding with a truck at kilometer 80 of the National Highway, with no victims reported in the event.
Images that seem taken from a movie show the Chevrolet completely destroyed, although its occupants did not suffer a scratch, according to a user reported on social networks.
