Piles of beverage cans, plastic bottles and bags, papers and other debris thrown by man were removed from the coastline.

More than 1,000 pounds of waste and debris were removed from the coast by environmental volunteers from Miami who mobilized this Sunday to contribute to the cleanup of the maritime environment of this city.

“All the @cleanmiamibeach volunteers gave their all yesterday! Incredible! 1,006 pounds of trash and debris removed from shoreline at Bayfront Park! We are beyond grateful to each of you who stepped up, contributed and supported us. Thank you all for helping save the ocean,” the news site said on Instagram.lifestyle_miami.

In a video shared by that medium, fifty people could be seen walking along the coastline in Bayfront Park, collecting all types of waste, many of them beverage cans, plastic bottles and bags, papers and other waste thrown by man.

“Stop throwing garbage into the sea!” the event page asked residents in Miami. “Biscayne Bay is dying and we must do better. Every action matters. Let's go together we can change the tide!” concluded the message from the environmental activists.

In late May, environmental volunteers from Miami joined in an arduous coastal cleanup collection drive along the Julia Tuttle Causeway, whereThey collected an impressive 4,125 pounds of trash.

In less than two hours, volunteers from various organizations and committed citizens cleaned up a large area where they accumulated a staggering volume of solid waste, including a casino roulette wheel, according to the organizing organizations on social media.

Countless plastics, drink cans, food wrappers, cigarette butts and large objects, such as tires, were removed from the coast.

The efforts of the volunteers leave a visible impact on the cleanliness of the beach, but draw the attention of all citizens to the urgency of caring for the coasts for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Also this weekend, members of the Miami community demonstrated their commitment to addressing the problem of coastal pollution and protecting marine life.
