The father, who now resides in Mexico, said contact with his son had taken place approximately two months ago.

“I left Cuba on July 27 and my son had already left for Russia. But at no time was it said that they were going to war. That was never said. They were going to serve, some construction work, trenches… but at no time were they told that they were going to war,” Velázquez García's father said desperately.

Asked if the Cuban government knows about his son's case, Velázquez assured that it does, taking into account the control it exercises over its citizens, especially those of military age.

“Yes, yes, of course he knows. How do you think that a government that controls everything is not going to know about that? They do know about human trafficking", stated Velázquez, who acknowledged that "the mother called me terrified, because they have threatened them, beating them."

In addition, he took the opportunity to denounce that the Russians had asked the young people for money in exchange for allowing them to communicate with their parents. “If they didn't pay, they couldn't connect with us. Those Russians have them, they are murderers. They have them kidnapped”.

Regarding the government's reaction, Velázquez pointed out that there has been none. "Nothing. What can you expect from a dictatorship? Nothing good can be expected from them. Less of that regime. They are the culprits,” he concluded.

Cary Díaz, for his part, remains uncertain about the current whereabouts of his son Alex Rolando Vega Díaz.

“Everything is an unknown. He hasn't called me in many days. According to his girlfriend, he received a call informing him that he was detained. They detained them, they took their phone and we don't even know where they are," he told America.

“Please help us, try to get us out of here as quickly as possible, because we are afraid,” Vega Díaz told Rolando Nápoles.

For his part, Velázquez García acknowledged that they are “very afraid. We don't sleep, we can't sleep because we don't know if at any moment they can come in and do something to us while we're sleeping.”

In addition, the young people revealed to the aforementioned media that Vega Díaz suffers from generalized arthritis and that Velázquez García has only one kidney. Both also reported being victims of torture..

“They beat us naked. They took off all our clothes and beat us. For pleasure, because we spoke to them in English and they told us that the Americans had sent us here and that we should confess,” said Vega Díaz, while his partner confirmed that they were naked and that they had been beaten “with punches” by three torturers.
