This Tuesday, the Yankees' victory over the Tigers served as the setting for Giancarlo Stanton to hit his 400th home run at the highest level of baseball.
Wasone missile (116.8 mph upon exit) that fell 451 feet on the left side of a stadium that moments later would stand up to give him a standing ovation, despite the fact that the home team has practically no options to advance to the postseason.
"It's a pretty interesting feat," Stanton said in statements cited by MLB.com. “I didn't have a number in mind when I started this game, but it's great to be here now."
33 years old, the 2017 MVP - then he wore the colors of the Marlins -managed to close the digit in his 1520th game, a figure that only three men have been able to improve throughout history: Mark McGwire (he did it in 1,412 challenges), Babe Ruth (1,475) and Alex Rodríguez (1,489).
Furthermore, it has just becomethe 58th player to hit 400 home runs in the MLB, and the tenth to achieve it with the striped uniform of the Bronx squad, after Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, A-Rod, Gary Sheffield, Alfonso Soriano, Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltrán.
“Honestly, (Stanton) is unique,” manager Aaron Boone said. “You can have those at-bats where your bat breaks in half and the barrel ends up in the net behind home plate, and the next time [you can] hit it 118 [mph]. I played against Sheffield, who used to launch rockets and hit the ball constantly hard. ButG is unique in its own right”.
