Yesterday's important challenge between the Astros and Mariners was a favorable setting for the thirtieth home run ofYordan Alvarez in the season, with whichCuba added a fourth element with that number of home runs in 2023.

Nothing like this had ever happened.Three men did it several times in a course, but the other passenger was always missing. In 2016 Yoenis Céspedes, Kendrys Morales and Yasmany Tomás got together. But that's it. And three years later the same thing happened with Jorge Soler, José Abreu and Yulieski Gurriel.

What's more: history repeated itself in 2021, when Yordan himself reached three tens along with Adolis García and (again) Abreu. Clearly, it was very difficult to put together the quartet.

Now it has been achieved. The Astros giant has just been added to a relationship that already included his compatriotsLuis Robert (38), Adolis Garcia (37) andJorge Soler (36), thus completing an artillery of 141 home runs so far this year.

It has been wonderful. Robert has hit two more home runs than all he had between 2020 and 2022. Adolis signed a personal record and has 95 in the last three seasons. Soler has once again been the great cannon that led the American League in 2019. Finally, 'Big Yordan' achieved his third championship in a row with 30 hits despite missing a month and a half due to an injury.

The data is very revealing: barely25 players They have been able to hit that many home runs in 2023, so16 percent of them saw the light in the Greater Antilles. The rest of the group is made up of 12 Americans, five Dominicans, one Japanese, one from Curacao, one Mexican and one Venezuelan.

Before concluding, a couple more buttons. The first, that among the dozen Americans who achieved it there is a descendant of Cubans, the star JD Martínez. The second, that among the five players who have accumulated 29 home runs - just one step away from the feat! - is Nick Castellanos, another Cuban-American.
