There are more and more elderly people who wander the streets of Cuba, homeless, hungry, begging for alms, in situations of extreme precariousness and without receiving any attention from the regime.
HeCuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) recently disclosed on its official Facebook profile images of elderly people living outdoors, a reality that is not exclusive to one region of the country.
“Cubans, many of them of legal age, totally helpless by the government and in a vulnerable condition. This happens throughout the island,” denounced the OCDH.
In the images you can see several elderly people sleeping on the streets and sidewalks and begging for alms next to their saints while people and dogs pass by them.
Another video published by this organization on that same social network shows an elderly man in Santiago de Cuba walking barefoot through the streets and searching the garbage in search of food and raw materials to later sell.
So far this year, the Cuban Human Rights Observatory has denounced situations of this type on several occasions.extremely heartbreaking in different provinces.
Last July it emerged thatelderly in Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba, some of them disabled and sick people, survive by begging, wandering in search of food and collecting cans and bottles to sell and have some money.
According to this organization, 72% of the Cuban population lives verybelow the poverty line.
Food shortages, inflation and high prices have led many people to live inInhuman conditions.
