Insurance scammers tried to defraud a 94-year-old woman in Miami

Authorities arrested four people, three of them insurance adjusters, for trying to defraud an elderly Miami Gardens woman and the Citizens Insurance agency.

Authorities arrested four suspectsscammers for multiple felony charges, after working together todefrauding a 94-year-old woman in Miami Gardens and the Citizens Insurance agency.

Investigators with the Florida Department of Finance's Insurance Fraud Bureau accused those arrested of filing insurance claims on behalf ofGay Scott, without their knowledge, on undamaged property, indicated a report fromLocal 10 News.

According to authorities, it was an attempt todefraud to the woman andCitizens Insurance for more than$57,000.

An agency spokesperson noted that “the fraudulent claims concerned alleged water and mold-related damage associated with the elderly victim's kitchen and air conditioning unit.”

The detainees were identified asMiguel Ángel Roche, 29, of southwest Miami-Dade, public insurance adjuster;Kevin Gras (28), of southwest Miami-Dade, public insurance adjuster;Adolfo José Díaz-Alfonzo (26), of Miami Gardens, unlicensed insurance adjuster Premier Consultant Group; andYolett Ernestina Moren-Reina, 60, of southwest Miami-Dade, owner of Never Mold, LLC.

The accusedthey forged Scott's signature in “multiple fraudulent homeowner claims, benefit assignment documents, public adjuster contracts, and a service repair agreement.”

The group “worked together” with each other and “invented that the air conditioning and kitchen had suffered mold and water damage.”

In addition,they tricked the old woman making her believe that a free home inspection had been performed to help her. “Instead, without his knowledge,They used your signature and identity to file a home insurance claim on a property that had not been damaged,” the agency spokesperson said.

Scott claimed she never signed anything. “I told them I didn't want anything,” he toldLocal 10 News.

The suspects face charges forexploitation of the elderly, organized fraud, insurance fraud, grand theft, Identity Theft, issuance of counterfeit instruments andbe a public expert without a license.

They could be sentenced tobetween 15 and 85 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
