The president of United States, Joe Biden, arrived this Wednesday in Israel in the midst of an international controversy caused by the devastating attack suffered the day before in a hospital in Gaza that left hundreds of people dead.
During his meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden backed Israel's claims that the attack was the work of Palestinian groups, although Gaza militias, including Hamas, accuse Israel of being responsible.
“I am outraged and deeply saddened by the explosion at Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza and the terrible loss of life it caused. Immediately after hearing this news, I spoke to the Rey Abdullah II of Jordan and the Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel and ordered my national security team to continue collecting information about what exactly happened,” the US president said in X.
Before the press and flanked by the Israeli prime minister, Biden declared that he had information about the terrible event that indicated that it had not been the result of an Israeli attack. “According to what I have seen, the other team did it, not for you”said the American president.
Asked by the press about what sources he based on to attribute the attack to the "other team," the president replied that it was based on "the data that my Department of Defense showed me."
“But there are many people in the world who are not safe,” Biden added, indicating that investigations and conversations will be necessary to clarify the tragic incident. His statements reminded many analysts of the previous ones, accepting as valid the information about the beheading of dozens of Jewish babies at the hands of Hamas, something about which no evidence has appeared at the moment.
According to Biden, “The United States unequivocally stands for the protection of civilian life during the conflict and we mourn the deaths of patients, medical personnel and other innocent people, as well as those injured in this tragedy.”
The US president stated that Hamas does not represent all the Palestinian people and that it had committed evils and atrocities that make the ISIS terrorist group appear more moderate. Likewise, he indicated that 31 Americans died in the surprise attack on October 7.
The American president's visit underscores the United States' commitment to Israel in the conflict and its continued support for the country's security in the region.
For his part, Netanyahu expressed his gratitude for Biden's visit and highlighted his support in the conflict against Hamas, comparing it to global unity during World War II and the fight against the Islamic State, according to WHICH.
What happened in the Gaza hospital has ignited controversy between supporters of Israel and the Palestinians. While Israel claims that an Islamic Jihad rocket caused the explosion, Gaza militias, including Hamas, maintain that it was an Israeli bombing.
The international media have suffered from the vertigo of contradictory, instantaneous and oversaturated information from both sides, forcing many of them to have to modify their headlines about what happened.
Biden's visit to Israel originally included a stop in Jordan, where a quadrilateral summit with Arab leaders was to be held. However, this meeting was canceled by Arab leaders in response to the attack on the Gaza hospital. President Biden decided to maintain his visit to Israel, although shortening it for security reasons.
