Mexican deputies formally presented a complaint against the Ministry of Health and the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) for the purchase and application of the Cuban vaccine Abdala against Covid-19.

The deputy for the National Action Party (PAN) Éctor Jaime Ramírez Barba said that this is one of several complaints that will be presented for the purchase of vaccines from Cuba, many of whichexpired before being applied, the newspaper reportedAM, From guanajuato.

The document with the lawsuit was presented to the Ministry of Public Function (SFP) for alleged irregular handling, application or custody of federal public resources assigned to vaccination, as well as application of expired vaccines.

"Why did they expire, why were they not applied before August?" questioned the PAN representative.

He said that the complaint calls for "investigating the reason why they now want to apply these vaccines with an extension letter and they were not applied at the time."

In particular, it is requested to review the national vaccination strategy against Covid-19.

It argues that the right to health protection is violated with possible effects on public resources.

It also requests that the government ofAndrés Manuel López Obrador, an ally of Havana, submit a report to the Chamber of Deputies on the purchase of these vaccines from Havana, despite the fact that some states have expressed their opposition to applying them because they are not endorsed by the WHO.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Daniel Díaz Martínez, said that they would not be applied in that territory because the Abdala vaccines that the Federation has have already expired.

In the midst of the controversy involving his government this week, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador publicly applied theRather.

"You can go to the Social Security hospitals, the ISSSTE, also the Navy hospitals, the Sedena hospitals, the Pemex hospitals, all those that are federal hospitals and the IMSS-Wellbeing and it is already being organized so that this entire season can be apply the vaccine and take care of ourselves during the winter, that's what this vaccine is for, both of them," said the MORENA leader.

On October 16, Mexico began the National Vaccination Campaign against influenza andCOVID-19 to vulnerable groups.

The application in Mexico of the controversial Cuban vaccine has caused rejection in part of the scientific community and has been received with distrust by the population.

In December 2021, Mexico authorized the emergency use of the Cuban vaccine, a decision that sparked criticism in the Mexican medical sector, since the World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet given its approval to this or any of the vaccines. Cuban vaccines against coronavirus.

In February of this year, for its part, it had emerged that the application of Abdala failed as a booster option in Mexico, after only one percent of the population chose to receive the dose.

In the Mexican capital, where the Cuban drug was offered as the only option, not even 2,500 doses were administered per day between December 21, 2022 and January 24, 2023.

A few days ago, workers at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in the state of Morelos reported that their bosses are forcing them to give expired doses of the Cuban vaccine.
