A Cuban mother from Ciego de Ávila gave birth to triplets thanks to assisted reproduction procedures in that territory.
On October 24 at the Doctor Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial General Teaching Hospital, children Isabela, Alisen and Liam were born, weighing less than 2000 grams, the official newspaper reported.Invader.
The newborns will remain hospitalized in the Neonatology ward until they reach the recommended parameters for hospital discharge, the media stated.
The specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics Darvel Hernández Calzadilla explained that the children were born by cesarean section at 34 weeks and two days, and were conceived through the Assisted Reproduction Program in the province, which has had an effectiveness of 52 percent with more of 300 pregnancies achieved.
This is the first birth of triplets in that territory in the last five years, he commented.
"The patient came to the consultation and we began to treat her. We discovered that she had ovulation disorders and, when we applied the first dose of medication to stimulate this process, the pregnancy arrived, which was high risk, not only because it was multiple, but because she was classified as short, at 1.50 meters tall," he highlighted.
After the procedure, the mother, Saili Gómez, remained hospitalized from 14 weeks.
According to the newspaper, in 2022, 301 pregnancies and 132 births were reported in the province thanks to assisted reproduction techniques, for an effectiveness of 52 percent of the treatments performed.
