CUPET changes its official version of the fire of a fuel pipe in Pinar del Río

A Facebook user, who claimed to be the driver's sister, commented that the state company is lying to cover up its responsibility and blame it on the driver.

The Cuban Petroleum Union (CUPET) changed its official version about the fire that occurred on the night of October 24 in Pinar del Río,after a fire broke out in a fuel pipe at the Guamá service center in that city.

“CUPET modifies its own version of the fire of a fuel truck in the city of Pinar del Río,” announced the Cuban journalistRonald Suarez in theirsocial networks, sharing screenshots of the “explanatory note.”

Without identifying the institutional profile that issued the new message, Suárez stated that “institutional profiles” of the company offered a new version of the events “refuting what its directors explained to the press shortly after the incident.”

“The entity clarified that the fire did not originate in front of the fuel pumps and that the driver at no time moved the burning vehicle to another position. Regarding the initial version that the fire was apparently caused by a short circuit, he warned that the causes of the incident are still under investigation by the MININT,” he noted.

On October 25, the Facebook profile 'Comunicador Cupet Pinar del Río' indicatedRenier Bejerano Blanco, director of the Guamá service center offered details of what happened, “declaring that the driverCarlos E. Ávila Valdés "He was preparing to supply fuel input to the rigid, when he perceived the vapor of the flames."

“He quickly took into account the pertinent measures to avoid collateral damage. Fortunately, there were no human losses. The causes of the fire are still under investigation,” the CUPET profile added.

In its “Explanatory Note” this Wednesday, thestate company Cuban stressed that “at no time did the driver move the burning car to another position,” and specified that “the fire started when the car was parked outside the area where fuel is provided.”

It is striking that a journalist who in his Facebook profile claims to have worked for the official newspaperGranma, be the one who detects and exposes the contradictory versions offered by the state company.

While the first version, offered by 'Comunicador Cupet Pinar del Río', indicated that "the driverCarlos E. Ávila Valdés "He was preparing to supply fuel in the rigid vehicle, when he perceived the vapor of the flames", the recent "explanatory note" maintains that "the fire started when the car was parked outside the area where fuel is enabled."

Apparently, the differences between both versions point to the responsibility of one or other actors involved in the incident, which is why CUPET emphatically repeated that "the causes of the incident are still under investigation by the MININT (Ministry of the Interior)."

A Facebook user identified asFour Silva, who claimed to be the sister of the CUPET pipe driver, made several comments on Suárez's publication, indicating that the company is lying to cover up its responsibility and blame it on the driver.

“What the CUPET directors say is a lie. Yes, it originated from a circuit and it did move from where the fuel pumps were. "They are lying to harm a young driver with values, since they know that their vehicles are all damaged," he said.

According to Silva, these managers “know that that car had technical defects.” The woman asked to “review all the reports, because they want to accuse the black man”; an injustice that, he warned, he will not allow to be committed against his brother.
