The Cuban former big leaguer Rusney Castillo He debuted this Tuesday with the Matanzas team in the Cuban Elite Baseball League.

The man from Avila lined up as the third player and center fielder during the Yumurinos' visit to Santiago de Cuba, reported the independent media Swing Completo.

Castillo went 1 for 5 with one run scored and no errors in four defensive attempts in the Matanzas team's 8-1 victory.

At the end of September, the journalist Francys Romero had announced that Castillo held talks to return to the Island and intervene in the second edition of the Elite League and in the 63rd National Series, where he would defend the colors of Matanzas.

Armando Ferrer, manager of the Crocodiles, confirmed to Romero the future incorporation of the outfielder.

Castillo's case constitutes one of the most disastrous operations in the long history of the Boston Red Sox, which in 2014 extended him a contract of 72.5 million dollars and over three seasons they barely saw him play 99 games, with very poor slugging of .379.

He also did not do well in his foray into Japanese baseball with the Rakuten Eagles, for whom he averaged .225 in 33 games.

In September, the man from Avila reached a settlement in a lawsuit two companies that will end up costing him three million dollars.
