The largest sailing yacht in the world, the superyacht owned by American tycoon Jeff Bezos, anchored in Port Everglades, southern Florida, but due to its size it could not do so along with other luxury ships and has had to be docked next to oil tankers.

Koru, the supersailboat of 126 meters long (416 feet), three 70-meter masts and $500 million, arrived this week at that seaport of Fort Lauderdale, known for being one of the docking places for the most luxurious megayachts in the world.

But the colossal size of Bezos' ship has forced it to share dock space with the Seakay Sky and Independence oil tankers.

According to the site Interesting Engineering, Port Everglades, which is home to superyachts up to 121 meters long (400 feet), “struggled to find suitable space for the gigantic Koru.”

He also added that "the docking fees for such an extraordinary vessel are notable for their financial implications and the great challenge of finding suitable space."

To have Koru in the seaport, the founder of Amazon will have to pay about $2,400 a day, which would represent a bill of more than $20,000 during the 10 days that the megayacht is expected to remain anchored in the place.

Interesting Engineering revealed other details about the arrival of the huge ship in southern Florida, which was shrouded in secrecy. Port Everglades had to block the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and details of the sailboat so that it would not be discovered.

Note the site The Spanish that this system, imposed by the International Maritime Organization, “transmits the position of a ship at all times,” so that other ships know its coordinates and thus avoid problems. It is mandatory on ships of more than 300 gross tons.

Last May, Jeff Bezos and his partner, the journalist and actress Lauren Sanchez, sailed on the supersailboat Koru through the waters of Mallorca, Spain.

The gulet has a giant swimming pool, all kinds of facilities on board, and can accommodate up to 18 guests and a crew of 40 members.

Its three masts can deploy nearly 10,000 square meters of sail, capable of moving the vessel at more than 35 kilometers per hour and converting wind energy into electricity to make the yacht almost self-sufficient.

In August, Bezos bought a mansion on Indian Creek Village island. The exclusive area of Miami is home to 41 luxury residences and is known as the “millionaires bunker,” where the businessman and his girlfriend They will be neighbors of celebrities as Julio Iglesias, Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, among others.

Bezos - born in Albuquerque, in 1964, and whose adoptive father is of Cuban origin- lived in Seattle for almost 30 years and left his position as CEO of Amazon two years ago.

The tycoon He chose Miami as his new home to be closer to his parents, who in July of last year bought a $34.9 million mansion in an exclusive neighborhood of Miami.

In a span of just five months, Bezos bought two valuable properties on the 1,189,780 square meter artificial island, whose luxurious mansions are located on a single road, Indian Creek Island Road.

Last week, the American businessman, the third richest person in the world, donated $118 million to organizations helping homeless families in 23 states of the United States.
