German soccer legend Franz Beckenbauer dies at 78

Franz Beckenbauer, former German player for Bayern Munich and the national team of that country, died this Sunday at the age of 78, as a result of an illness that had taken him away from the public scene in recent times, international media reports.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce that our father and my husband, Franz Beckenbauer, died on Sunday, peacefully in the surroundings of his family. We ask to be able to grieve in peace and skip all questions,” his family said of the notable loss.

Beckenbauer was considered the greatest legend of German football, he was world champion as a player in 1974 and as a coach in 1990, he won the old European Cup three times with Bayern Munich and a European Championship with Germany, the agency reports.WHICH.

The footballer debuted with Bayern in 1964 and retired with the New York Cosmos in 1983.

In this last team, he made history alongside Pelé, forming one of the most iconic teams in world football, which won three championships. Before, he had won everything there was to win with Bayern and the German national team (103 games).
